I really like this Micro Hawk. This is a VERY substantial piece of steel. I would not classify this as a super steel, but TOPS has a solid reputation when it comes to heat treating 1095. Which means that at 5/16 of an inch, you can expect this little tool to be VERY strong and (barring abuse) to maintain a good usable edge. I also like the para cord wrap on the handle, which is applied with precision and can be very useful in an emergency situation.My brother likes this tool as well, though he believes when it comes to usability he would prefer a more conventional knife blade. To some extent I believe he has a valid point here. This implement is physically small and is designed for chopping and slicing rather than penetration. Personally I like the balance and the uniqueness of this compact little weapon. This is a very sharp, lite weight tool that (when attacked by a vicious dog or a two legged preditor) could be deployed with devastating effect.I would not gift this hawk to a young person unless you know them to be a responsible individual. This tool IS very sharp (especially so in the spike area) and the sheath retention is quite snug. A break in concentration removing this knife could lead to a serious injury. As a senior with soreness in my hands I have attached a piece of para cord to the upper two eyelets on the sheath. This makes a reasonably secure handle that protects my hand when pulling this tool.Over the years I have amassed a fairly large collection of edged weapons. If nothing else this hawk is a very welcome addition and I highly recommend it.
